UMT Hosted H.E. Durmus Bastug, Consul General of Republic of Turkiye
The University of Management and Technology (UMT) had the honor of hosting H.E. Durmus Bastug, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye, along with Mr. Malik Jahangir Jaan, President of the Turkish Business Community at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). The esteemed guests were warmly received by the Rector, Provost, Chief Advisor to the President, Director Outreach, and senior staff members at the UMT.
The Rector Dr. Asif Raza welcomed H.E. Durmus Bastug and provided a comprehensive overview of UMT's academic landscape. He highlighted that while the University had actively benefited from academic exchange programs with Turkye, however the momentum had temporarily slowed down post COVID-19 pandemic.
H.E. Durmas Bastug emphasized the importance of revitalizing and expanding bilateral academic cooperation. He particularly emphasized the potential of joint research initiatives, MS and PhD-level collaborations, and exchange programs to further strengthen ties between the academic communities of both nations.
The Rector briefed H.E. on UMT's enrollment of Turkish students, their graduation and the continuous commitment to enhance collaboration with Turkish institutions. He further stated that University International office will also facilitate students for attending Turkish universities through organizing summer camps. A formal presentation showcased UMT’s profile, including its multi-campus infrastructure, dynamic student body, and academic achievements was presented. The Rector shared that UMT has been ranked as the top private-sector University in Pakistan by Times Higher Education and currently holds the Number one position in interdisciplinary rankings.
The Rector also highlighted UMT's strong focus on innovation in higher education, with special emphasis on programs in information technology including but not limited to the Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science. The Rector elaborated on the comprehensive offerings of UMT’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
H.E. appreciated UMT’s contributions toward fostering international academic exchange and extended a heartfelt invitation to UMT students to pursue opportunities in Turkiye, describing the two countries as brotherly nations.
In conclusion, H.E. was briefed on the upcoming International Conference and Education Expo to be held at UMT. He was also invited to encourage Turkish universities to participate in this event to further enhance academic collaboration, joint research, and cross-cultural engagement.
