Delegation Led by his excellency Deputy Head of Mission Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan Visits UMT to Strengthen Academic Ties

A high-level delegation, led by His Excellency Deputy Head of Mission Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan, met with the Rector, Provost, and senior officials at the University of Management and Technology (UMT). The delegation received a warm welcome, and foster stronger academic collaboration between the two countries.
The Rector highlighted UMT’s commitment to excellence in education, sharing that the university currently enrolls over 23,000 students across various undergraduate and graduate programs, including certificate courses. He emphasized UMT’s dedication in supporting international students, particularly the Somali students.
The delegation appreciated the university’s efforts in facilitating Somali students and acknowledged the valuable feedback shared by a recently graduated Somali student. It was briefed that a tuition fee waiver of up to 90% through scholarships is being offered to a significant number of Somali students.
His Excellency also extended gratitude for the scholarships provided by UMT.
The Rector informed the delegation about employment opportunities available for Somali graduates in faculty and management positions. He invited the delegation to explore further collaboration in research, student and faculty exchange programs, and industry-academia linkages.
His Excellency felt that online degree options could further enhance accessibility for Somali students. It was informed that approximately 700 Somali students are currently pursuing higher education in Pakistan.
The Rector highlighted that, UMT ranked Number 1 private sector university in Pakistan by Times Higher Education UK, in its interdisciplinary World University Rankings 2025. He emphasized UMT’s strong research orientation, with a significant number of research papers published annually, positioning the university ahead of many others in the region.
His Excellency was also briefed on UMT’s initiatives to strengthen industry-academia linkages by integrating faculty members into industry and facilitating student engagement with the corporate sector.
