Remembering Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad (Shaheed)

A special program to commemorate the ‘Legacy of Service, Leadership and Excellence’ of Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad (Shaheed), Founder of ILM Trust and UMT, was held today at the UMT Campus. The special ceremony was attended by close associates of Dr Hasan, and a galaxy of intellectuals, educationists, government and private sector representatives, and academicians. A large number of students and members of the general public were also present on the occasion.
The program began with recitation of some verses from the Holy Quran. Abid H K Shirwani, DG UMT and close friend of Dr Hasan, threw light on multiple facets of Dr Hasan’s personality and the profound impact he had on the educational landscape of Pakistan. It was Dr Hasan’s vision and commitment to the cause of education that led to the establishment of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) which has now evolved into a premier general university of Pakistan. Dr Naushaba Hasan, the life partner of Dr Hasan, spoke about the cherished years of companionship that she has shared with her husband. Dr Hasan, she said was a deeply spiritual person and both of them shared a bond based on love for Allah.
Mohammad Sarwar, Governor of Punjab, said that he was here to celebrate the life and achievements of Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad. He said that he was sharing his thoughts not as a university chancellor or the Governor of Punjab; rather as a friend and a brother of Dr Hasan. It was a privilege to have met him and known him. He said that looking at the crowd and seeing people from all walks of life, it is clear that Dr Hasan was loved and respected by all. Dr Hasan spent all his life for the betterment of the people and for the advancement of education. He was a visionary who always believed that educating people was not for making profits; rather education should be accessible to all.
Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, former Foreign Minister of Pakistan, said that we have gathered here today to pray for the soul of Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad and hope that the seed that he has planted continues to grow and prosper. Recalling his association with Dr Hasan, Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri said that he had often been invited to seminars on foreign policy which were held from time to time at UMT; it was indeed worth appreciating how Dr Hasan’s leadership transformed UMT into a great institution of higher learning. UMT now ranks among the top 500 Universities in QS Asia University rankings. Such an achievements bears testimony to the hard work and administrative capabilities of Dr Hasan.
Dr Amjad Saquib said that Dr Hasan was a leader in the true sense of the world and like all great leaders, he made achieved his goals and helped others to achieve their goals as well. Ameer ul Azeem, leader of Jamat e Islami, Pakistan, talked about Dr Hasan’s commitment to the uplift of the Muslim Ummah and the challenges which can be met only through development of the education sector.
Ibrahim Hasan Murad, President UMT and ILM Trust, shared memories of his father, Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad (Late) during a heartfelt speech. He was speaking at a special event dedicated to the legacy of Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad. He shared memorable moments of his life with Dr Hasan. He said that last year was the most difficult time and it changed everything. The only thing which kept him moving was ‘taqwa’ which he had learnt from his father. Dr Hasan considered death as a message of happiness for momimeen.
