Online Education and Quality Assurance

University of Management and Technology (UMT) becomes the first institute in Pakistan to secure Quality Matters (QM) Membership, USA. Quality Matters is the global organization leading quality assurance in online and innovative digital teaching and learning environments. It provide learners an opportunity to improve and grow by having access to well-designed, well-conceived, well presented course and programmes. It allows us the access to tools, resources and research supported quality assurance systems to design and develop online courses that satisfactorily meet the learning objectives of the learners.

The quality assurance of online Higher Education programmes is one of the great challenges faced by universities in Pakistan. To address the matter, Accreditation and Academic Quality Improvement Cell (AAQIC) organised a seminar on “Quality Assurance of Online Education with Quality Matters, USA”.

The workshop was conducted by Dr Yaping Gao, Senior Academic Director, Member Services and Partnerships. All faculty members were invited to attend the workshop for professional development and to ensure the maintenance of quality in online learning. The participants turnout was great, more than 100 faculty members including Deans and Chairpersons participated in the session. Dr. Gao shared valuable insights during the session. She stressed the need for regular assessment of the online programmes is essential in order to take actions to improve their quality. With her expertise, she highlighted the use of research in course and programme designing to encourage student engagement and active learning. The training workshop was well-received and our faculty feels more knowledgable and inspired to better manage their online courses. We thank you Dr. Gao for an enlightening session.
