Introduction to Dr Kamran Siddiqui needs neither reminder nor persuasion. He has a multifaceted personality with each facet more brilliant than the other. A bright student, a passionate teacher, a caring mentor, an innovative academician, a novel researcher, an entrepreneur and the list goes on. He excelled in every field he touched.
Dr. Siddiqui received his early education in Karachi. He was easily the brightest student in his class. He attended D.J. College and University of Karachi for his intermediate and undergraduate studies. He completed his PGD (Systems Analysis) and MBA (MIS) from IBA, Karachi in 1992. Recently he earned his MA (Marketing) from Bradford (2004), and PhD (Marketing) from Manchester Business School (2008). His PhD research title was “An empirical investigation to examine the influence of Personality on Customer Loyalty, Satisfaction and Switching of Mobile Phone and Credit Card Services in Pakistan”. During his foreign education he developed a sophisticated skill set using most modern statistical packages and techniques. This skill set was further polished during his tutoring assignment for Research Methods course to postgraduate students at MBS.
His local corporate exposure includes employment with Philips, NDLC & Unilever in middle management positions. In Middle East he worked for leading training chain New Horizons CLC in Bahrain as senior trainer while in Dubai he established another leading computer training institute with entrepreneurial stakes. He is a certified Systems Engineer and Trainer for world’s leading giants like Microsoft and Novell.
Currently he is employed at University of Management & Technology (UMT) Lahore as Director UMT Evening Programmes, looking after all three faculties and administrative affairs. His major task is to launch new programs in near future and maximize the capacity utilization. At UMT, he is known as ‘initiator’ for various initiatives. For instance, during 2000, he successfully developed and executed the world’s first Masters Degree program on E-Business. In 2001, he developed a case repository for School of Business and Economics. During this period he also compiled a case book on Information Technology and co-authored two books on computer programming. In 2003, he organized Pakistan’s first seminar on “Data Warehousing” in collaboration with NCR Pakistan Ltd, at Pearl Continental, Lahore. In 2006, he developed the idea of establishing FM Radio station on campus which was appreciated by fellow colleagues and seniors at UMT. During his association with UMT, he developed more than 24 new courses in three different faculties/schools. In addition to these solo flights, he was also part of various committees and teams for different projects.
His managerial exposure with corporate sector as manager and trainer, coupled with his experience in academic sector, cultivated a strong work ethic and helped him develop his professional expertise according to modern academic requirements. He describes himself as an active team member who knows well about taking the directions from seniors, developing the ideas and plans and then executing these value added directives by taking all stakeholders together, both implicitly and explicitly. The level of energy, professionalism, discipline and inclination to work as management agent for change, are some of his dimensions always admired by his fellow colleagues and seniors. Now he aims to develop a faculty development programme through which different business schools would be benefited and may attain an ideal target of 100% PhD faculty membership.
