The Department of Sociology at the University of Management and Technology is honored to share that it is bringing together scholars, activists, and students for its 1st International Conference on Contemporary Issues in Muslim Societies and Cultures on April 5-6, 2017.

The Conference aims at understanding of the contemporary challenges faced by members of Muslim communities across the world and help to move away from myopic perceptions of Islam. It intends to enable deep and meaningful conversations about how Islam exists in both Muslim majority settings and in places where Muslims constitute the minority. This conference comes at a time when religious intolerance is rife and we need platforms for engaging ideas that could lead to more just societies. Especially in the context of Pakistan, more conversations are needed to allow for common grounds for interreligious harmony and growth.

We have exciting discussions lined up, with presenters and participants of the conference coming together from a variety of disciplines, including but not limited to the fields of Sociology, Gender Studies, Islamic Thought, Political Science, Philosophy and Management from countries including the US, UK, Malaysia, Canada, Germany, Kashmir, Turkey, India, Iran, Hungary, South Africa, Croatia, and South Korea, allowing for rich discussions of the debates surrounding Muslims in the current local and transnational milieu.
