Addressing the large gathering at the 11th UMT Convocation 2015, Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector UMT, said that this is the second largest convocation inthe history of UMT and 1300 + graduates are being awarded degrees. He said that learning and leading, vision and mission of UMT, complement each other. At UMT, emphasis is on hands-on experiential learning and the progress of individuals is holistically integrated. He added that higher education is about attaining higher levels of education.
The 11th UMT Convocation is being attended by Patron UMT, Rafiq Rajwana, the Honorable Governor of Punjab. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, National Reforms and Development, Muhammad Mian Soomro, Chairman, ILM Trust, distinguished guests, members of Board of Governors and ILM Trust, graduating students and their parents.
Summarizing some of the achievements of UMT over the past year, Dr Hasan said that formation of UMT as a General University is almost complete. UMT is a general university because of the wide range of degrees being offered in diverse areas. At present, 125+ degrees are being offered. On an important note, the Rector said that UMT is playing its role in national integration through adhering to a non-elitist approach.
UMT enjoys extremely cordial relation with two dozen universities across the world. Next year, an MBA and Masters in Global Management will be launched. One third of UMT graduates are from outside Lahore. Half of them will proceed abroad for higher studies. UMT has extended coverage in all levels of programs such as engineering, social sciences, media and communication, law, and business studies. It is the only University offering professional certification in ERP.
The Rector said that UMT is blessed with highest quality faculty. In fact, it is the faculty who have taken the University to the present level. The Rector said that 350+ full time faculty members and 150+ visiting teachers are adding value to UMT. In fact, many students choose UMT because of the quality of the teachers here. Dr Hasan concluded his address by urging the graduates to develop their own theory and practice. nothing can beat excellece but it is only possible if one is totally committed. He said that it is preseverance that will beat the obstacles posed by limited opportunity.
